I remember writing this poem many years ago while sitting on the balcony of the hotel we were staying in that year. I saw the birds flying all around and I got to thinking I wonder what they would feel if I could one of those birds for just a day. I'm sure the birds have no idea how majestic they are and that their flying privilege is coveted by humans. To me it is poetic, flying that is. Symbolically and physically amazing.
I'm Like a Bird
Poem by Jessica A. Goolsby
I look at the ocean,
with its waves crashing on the shore,
The water seems never-ending,
with my wings I spread and soar.
I look at the ocean,
with its calming sound,
I could glide over these waters forever,
for me there is no need for ground.
I look at the ocean,
It's salty mist hits my face,
The cool breeze blows past me,
my presence leaves no trace.
I look at the ocean,
the orange and pink sun sets in the sky,
It is beautiful here,
far away I'll fly.
