In Parenthesis

Updated: Sep 3

Child releasing a glowing paper lantern into the night sky, surrounded by darkness. The child wears a red shirt, creating a warm glow. Letting go of someone like letting go of a lantern.

I didn't want to let go of you,

It didn't seem right to do.

Since false words painted white,

A subtle ache in my innerness,

Would this survive my forgiveness?

The seasons that passed,

Decades put in,

The words like flowers,

The substance thin.

“Forever” is said from more than just boys,

I'm left staring at the River's noise,

Of all the people I didn't think you,

A subtle ache in my innerness,

I watched the boat sink in the stillness.

I didn't want to let go,

315 miles of water like memories,

The past like a garden,

(I still love you in parenthesis).
